“You Are Not Alone”

Boarding the all-night bus to the 11/14/23 March for Israel in Washington DC I was worried — would it be safe at a public event with so many Jews? Is it crazy to stay up all night in the middle of the work week on a 24 hour photo documentary/ advocacy adventure? We joined thousands of openly Jewish people marching together demanding to free the hostages and to stop rampant antisemitism in our communities. I am not sure how much impact it had on the politicians as most of them stayed invisible inside the capitol buildings. The march seemed to have the most impact on us, the marchers. There was a real sense of hope and community and many positive conversations between strangers.  As Van Jones said in his speech that day, “…no matter what happens any place else, we can do better here. No more horror there. No more hatred here. You are not alone.”
